Recurrent cystitis: it manifests or recurs periodically over time or at more or less regular intervals in space; cyclic, periodic, frequent.

The problem of "relapses" when talking about cystitis is extremely widespread. Just as unfortunately repeated antibiotic treatments prove ineffective, often not solving the problem because they do not act on the pathogenesis. In this sense, recently the scientific community has highlighted the key role of the urothelial mucosa – the lining of the urinary tract – as an impermeable protective barrier, necessary to protect the urinary tract from inflammations.

Confirmation comes from the preliminary results of an observational study conducted on female patients with chronic cystitis and recurrent bacterial cystitis. Where repeated antibiotic treatments do not solve the problem of repeated cystitis, a significant improvement in symptoms and a reduction in the number of relapses are obtained precisely by intervening in the restoration of the urothelium, and in particular the glycosaminoglycan (GAGs) layer, the so-called coating. Sodium hyaluronate and chondroitin sulfate help restore this important protective "barrier" function.
