Meliloto (Melilotus officinalis), or yellow sweet clover, is an annual herbaceous plant of the legume family widely spread in Europe, Asia and temperate zones; it grows spontaneously on roadsides, in fields, vineyards, on calcareous soils, and for its pleasant hay-like scent it was often sown together with cattle forage, so that their milk would be sweeter and more fragrant. Its name, in fact, means "clover honey".
According to studies, Meliloto officinalis is effective in cases of venous and lymphatic insufficiency, in the presence of varicose veins.
