GYMNEMA SYLVESTRIS
Also known as Gur-Mar (sugar destroyer), Gymnema sylvestre is a climbing plant native to India and Central Africa with a high content of polyphenols and triterpenic glycosides.
The parts used are the leaves, as they are rich in gymnemic acid, an active ingredient similar to glucose molecules but larger in size.
According to studies, GYMNEMIC ACID acts in our body through two distinct mechanisms of action: at the intestinal level, reducing sugar absorption by 50%, the block occurs already 1 hour after administration; on the taste buds, where the connection with the glucose receptor alters the perception of sweet taste, without affecting salty or bitter tastes. Gymnemic acid helps to prevent hyperglycemia (non-insulin-dependent diabetes), it seems to exert an indirect slimming effect by blocking fat accumulation in adipose tissues and at the same time reducing the continuous craving for sweet foods (of course, it is essential to combine with a proper diet and physical activity).
